FenceWorks on HGTV’s Worst Yard on the Block
When HGTV came to Atlanta to fix a yard, our crew was brought in for the fence: a scalloped cedar picket with French gothic posts, built for the episode “Chaos to Calm Oasis,” which aired August 5, 2026. The same style is available for your yard, from the crews that build across metro Atlanta every week.

Watch the fence go in
Worst Yard on the Block is an HGTV renovation show. Hosts Tucker and J Paul take a yard that’s gotten away from its owners and bring it back. For this Atlanta episode, the fence was ours. The clip runs about 45 seconds: the yard before, the crew setting posts and hanging pickets over two days on site, and the finished yard.

What we built for the show
A cedar picket fence with a negative scallop and French gothic posts. In plain terms: the picket line dips between each post instead of running flat, and every post is topped with a pointed gothic cap. It’s a traditional look that reads well from the street. Cedar pickets because cedar stays straighter than pine as it dries and takes stain well.
The posts went in the way we set every post: wet-set in concrete, 2 feet deep, with the pickets and gate hung once the concrete could take the weight. The landscaping, seating, and everything else in the yard came from the show’s team. We did the fence and gate, and we’re happy to be judged on them.

Built on site, to your grade
Posts 2 feet deep, wet-set in concrete. Pickets cut and hung on site so the line follows your ground instead of fighting it. The gate goes on once the concrete can hold it, not before, which is the small patience that keeps a gate from sagging.

★★★★★
I had a large fence put around my yard and then a picket fence at the end of my driveway and everything turned out perfect! I was very pleased with the work Goyo did, he was very good and patient with me when I had a specific vision in mind for my picket fence. Johnathan was great at overseeing my project as well! I would highly recommend Fenceworks!

I had my 18 year-old picket fence replaced by FenceWorks. The quoting and scheduling were handled by Cody, and the on-site replacement was done by Victor. Both Victor and Cody did a superb job. They were knowledgeable, efficient, on-time and professional. The cost was competitive and reasonable. I will call FenceWorks again when I need fence work done. They are the best I have seen.

Showed up on time, had it done in one day as promised, work area clean when they were done. We had a fence taken down and another installed and they did a great job. Fence looks great, gates are well mounted, balanced and smooth. No complaints on this one! Pancho and his crew get my recommendation.

Brian was great to work with and Luis and Juan did such an amazing job on the install. The craftsmanship is immaculate. They matched our inspiration well as we wanted a custom wood fence.

Questions about the HGTV fence
What was built, what it costs to build again, and how a normal-sized job works.
What did FenceWorks build on HGTV’s Worst Yard on the Block?
A cedar picket fence with a negative scallop and French gothic posts, plus a walk gate, for the Atlanta yard in the episode “Chaos to Calm Oasis” (aired August 5, 2026). The fence was our part of the project. The landscaping, seating, and the rest of the yard were done by the show’s team.
Can I get the same fence for my house?
Yes. A scalloped cedar picket with gothic posts is a standard build for us, not a one-off for television. We can match the style as-is or change the picket height, the scallop depth, or the post cap to suit your house. Mention the HGTV fence when we call to set up your estimate.
How much does a cedar picket fence cost in Atlanta?
As a 2026 ballpark, wood picket runs about $10–20 per foot installed. A scallop cut, gothic post caps, gates, and old-fence tear-out each add to the total. You’ll get an itemized number after a free on-site estimate; our fence cost guide explains every line.
Do you only take big jobs like the ones on TV?
No. Most of our work is one house, one fence: a backyard privacy fence, a front-yard picket, a pool fence, a gate that finally needs replacing. We also repair fences we didn’t build. If it’s a fence or a gate in metro Atlanta, call us. If it’s a deck or a retaining wall, we’ll tell you straight that it isn’t what we do.
How long does a picket fence take to install?
Most residential fences go up in a day. The show’s fence took two days on site. On a typical job the crew sets posts first thing and builds the fence the same day once the concrete can hold it. The gate gets hung last, for the same reason.
