The classic wrought-iron look
This is what most people picture when they say “wrought iron” — crisp black pickets with pressed-point spear tops and fine finials, the modern face of ornamental iron fencing. We build that timeless silhouette in ornamental steel, and black steel fence installation is most of what we do here — from spear-tops with finials to the clean flat top ornamental steel fence profile. It’s the same elegant, see-through look that keeps kids and pets safely inside without walling off the view — and few upgrades do more for curb appeal and property value. Prefer a lighter, lower-cost version of the same styles? We build them in aluminum too.

Estate entrances & driveway gates
Steel earns its keep at the driveway. A heavier-gauge steel gate holds a long or wide span straight over the years with far less sag than lighter metals — so it’s our first pick for estate entrances and custom monogram gates — and it’s why Atlanta estates so often pair automatic driveway gates with steel fence lines to match. We fabricate arches, scrollwork and custom panels, then wire them to keypads, remotes and safety loops for a secure, hands-free entry. (Exploring every gate option? Built strong for security & commercial
When the job calls for real strength, steel fencing is the answer. It’s hard to cut or pry, stands up to impact and storms, and scales to tall perimeter walls — which is why our decorative steel fence builders install commercial steel security fences for offices, industrial facilities, parking lots and heavy-duty gates. Same clean ornamental lines, engineered to take a beating.

Steel vs. aluminum: which metal fence is right for you?
Once they’re powder-coated black, ornamental steel and aluminum look nearly identical — so the choice comes down to the job. Here’s how they compare.
| Ornamental steelthe wrought-iron look | Aluminumlightweight & rust-free | |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | Heaviest-gauge — hard to cut or pry; the strongest metal fence we install | Lighter; dents more easily under impact |
| Rust | Galvanized + powder-coated to seal it; resists rust for decades | Contains no iron — can’t rust, ever |
| Best for | Security, estate perimeters, tall walls, long driveway gates | Pools, sloped yards, standard residential runs |
| Weight & install | Heavier; needs sturdier posts and footings | Lightweight; faster to set and adjust |
| Maintenance | Keep the coating intact; an occasional rinse | Virtually none — an occasional rinse |
| The look | Spear-top, finials, custom scrollwork — the wrought-iron look | The same styles in a lighter build |
| Cost tier | Mid-to-premium metal | The budget-friendly metal |

HOA approved steel fences, built for sloped Atlanta yards
Georgia yards are rarely flat. Ornamental steel panels can be stepped down a grade or custom-fabricated to follow it, so the fence tracks your slope without gaps underneath — and if you’re set on a rackable steel fence for sloped yards, we’ll tell you plainly whether stepped steel or rackable aluminum is the better tool for the terrain.
Decorative steel is also a familiar sight to metro Atlanta HOA boards: the classic ornamental profile suits most neighborhood architectural guidelines, and matching an approved style is far easier than arguing for a new one.
Prefer never-rust and a lower price? Aluminum gives you the same ornamental styles in a lighter, budget-friendly build that’s ideal for pools and sloped yards.

Our experience with the FenceWorks team was excellent. Tony was great to work with, super responsive and great at helping design the layout for a 6′ steel fence around our backyard. They went above and beyond with their service, removing some wild landscaping that needed to be cleared before the fence could be installed, because my landscape crew couldn’t get to that in time. In addition, I wanted to make a last minute change to the fence I’d initially requested, and Tony made the change and treated it like no big deal. I highly recommend them… In fact, we’ve already engaged them on a 2nd fencing project at our office building.

Amazing quality and impeccable customer service for a custom metal fencing and gate project. Meyo was so great to work with, he showed up early, had a crew of folks that got the job done quickly and the quality is above and beyond what I expected. Thanks Meyo for your help today and for being great to work with. If anyone is looking for fencing and gate work this is your guy!

Victorino did an excellent job installing our new metal fence and gate from FenceWorks. This is the entry to our back yard and patio. I have been wanting to replace the chain link that was there originally. Victorino installed everything to my specifications; he is very meticulous with much attention to detail, including spray painting minor smudges without my bringing that to his attention. He is also a very nice guy! Thanks very much for the great job!

FenceWorks did a great job installing our fence. They actually installed a metal fence for almost the same price that another company quoted for a wood fence. We would definitely use them again.

Wrought iron & steel fence FAQ
Quick answers on real wrought iron, steel vs aluminum, rust, pools, repairs, and cost.
Do you install real wrought-iron fences?
True hand-forged wrought iron is rarely made today. Most fences sold as “wrought iron” are ornamental steel (or aluminum) formed into that same classic look. We build the timeless black-iron look in galvanized, powder-coated steel — the strength and appearance of iron, without the rust and the constant repainting real iron needed.
What’s the difference between a steel fence and an aluminum fence?
Once powder-coated black they look nearly identical, so it comes down to the job. Steel is heavier-gauge and much stronger — the choice for security, tall walls, estate perimeters and long driveway gates. Aluminum is lighter, contains no iron so it can’t rust, and costs less, which makes it ideal for pools and standard residential runs. We’ll help you pick on-site.
Does an ornamental steel fence rust?
Bare steel can rust, which is exactly why our ornamental steel is galvanized and then powder-coated to seal it — it resists rust for decades with no painting. Keep the finish intact and an occasional rinse is all it needs. If zero rust risk is your top priority, aluminum contains no iron and cannot rust at all — ask us and we’ll steer you right.
How long does a steel or iron fence last, and how much upkeep is there?
A properly installed, powder-coated steel fence lasts decades. Unlike old-style wrought iron, there’s no sanding or repainting every few years — just rinse it and keep the coating intact. It’s dramatically lower-maintenance than the hand-forged iron fences it replaces — and unlike wood, there’s no rotting, warping, or termites to worry about.
Is steel a good choice for security, driveway gates, and commercial sites?
Yes — steel is the strongest metal fence we install. It’s hard to cut or pry, and it holds a long or wide driveway gate straight over time with less sag, so it’s our pick for estate perimeters, security fencing and commercial properties. We also build and automate matching steel driveway and entry gates.
What styles, heights, and colors are available, and what does it cost?
Spear-top (pressed-point), flat-top, finials and fully custom fabrication, typically 4 to 6 feet tall — taller for security — in black, bronze and other powder-coat colors, with matching walk and driveway gates. Ornamental steel typically runs $30+ per linear foot installed. We give free, itemized on-site estimates.
Can steel fencing be used around a pool?
Yes. Aluminum is our usual pool metal — it can’t rust and costs less — but for a high-end enclosure we also handle steel pool fence installation: galvanized, powder-coated panels built to pool-barrier height and picket-spacing requirements, with self-closing, self-latching gates. Keep the coating intact and it shrugs off splash and humidity. See our pool fence page for the full barrier checklist.
Do you repair steel and wrought-iron fences?
Yes — we handle steel fence repair across metro Atlanta: leaning posts, damaged panels or pickets, and gates that sag or won’t latch. See the steel fence repair section above, or choose “Repair” on the quote form and we’ll take a look with a free on-site estimate.
